HYPHA RESEARCH LIMITED
hypha
(from Ancient Greek ὑφή (huphḗ)
'web'; pl. hyphae): A long,
branching, filamentous structure of a fungus; tubular cells of a colony are collectively
known as “mycelium”.
Welcome to HYPHA Research
Ltd. Dedicated to studying the biology of fungi and developing novel
applications in biotechnology, agriculture and the protection of the environment.
The founder, Dr. Patrick C. Hickey has worked as an independent scientist since
2001, consulting on TV and film productions, unravelling the biological
mechanisms that regulate hyphal tip growth and mycelium development. The
laboratory and studio spaces are situated in Edinburgh, Scotland hosting a
suite of advanced optical imaging technology for capturing life at high spatial
and temporal resolution. Now with an extensive archive of data including more than
5 million images of fungi and mycelium, we are gaining a deeper understanding
of these beautiful organisms and the important roles they play on our planet.
